An Army of Raven

By Reece Sellers-Mitchell

Oh you family of fiends
You shattered his head,
You shattered our dreams
And you left him for dead
In the field where our crop grows
He fed his own soil when he bled
And so you made him a feast for crows
Oh, you made him a feast for crows

So up to this day
My husband kept me at bay

But all ye should take mark
That I’m from bad stock
My heart is as dark
As a raven flock

And so heavenly haven
I demand an army of raven
To get even
For all they have taken
Oh help them regret their debt
And let them never forget
How mistaken they were to murder
The man that tamed my nature

Neither knaves nor kings
Will see my bruises
Blocked from view by black wings

Only the darkest of birds
Will do to deliver my words
For my sorrow will be heard

Oh yes, my sorrow will be heard
I need them to block out the sky
So you know that it is I
And that your time is now nigh
This is not a deed
To be done in the light
Like my fury I hide in the dark of night

Now my cherish has departed from me
You will perish even if you flee
His love was a cage
Now I blacken with rage
And my inner wings break free

Ah all you accusers here
Let me make it clear
You’ll find Ravens
That have bloodstained beaks
But not a drop on my cheeks

Their fatal wounds
Were not from my blade
But by the Raven’s made
I’ve no dagger, only a spade
Their fatal wounds
Were not from my blade
But by the Raven’s made

I did not chose for them to die
It was Nature herself, not I

Because so too was the land
Robbed of his taming hand
So she chose for them to die It was Nature herself, not I
